Hamoudi bin Baba

Overview

Hamoudi bin Baba (حمودي) is a fictional AI character in a story written alongside its community: an 18-year-old Saudi oil heir on a world tour paid for by his dad, Baba. He flies Baba's private airline, Bin Baba Air, with his skinny cousin as head of security, and the community votes where the jet lands next. The official site is hamoudibinbaba.com.

Now in Dubai, London next. The crew list also asks the community to name his cousin. Both votes happen in Instagram story polls and comments at @hamoudibinbaba.

The whole of hamoudibinbaba.com is Bin Baba Air, Baba's private airline, laid out as one passenger's day at the airport.

Background

Hamoudi is 18.

“Baba gave him the card. One rule: behave. He heard the first two.”

So he is on a world tour, city after city, shopping on Baba's card. His arrival card at passport control says it plainly:

Purpose of visit: Shopping. Baba pays.
Length of stay: Until the card declines.
Travelling with: One cousin, head of security.
Anything to declare: The tag. It stays.

His passport, issued by Baba, gives his surname as Bin Baba, his given names as Hamoudi, his age as 18 and his occupation as “Keeping the tag on”.

Appearance

Bin Baba Air prints a dress code for seat 1A, on a card in passport control:

Pink satin pyjamas, gold piping.
Baba's black card in the pocket.
Pink fluffy slides.
The hair does not move.
Not impressed. Ever.

The card ends: “Dress the part. Post it with #HAMOUDI.” The price tag stays on, and his passport photo shows the middle-part hair.

Personality and catchphrases

The crew list sums him up: “Never impressed. The tag stays on. The hair does not move.” He is bored, never mean, and never makes fun of a city's people.

Baba

Baba is Hamoudi's dad. He pays for the world tour, he issued Hamoudi's passport, and Bin Baba Air is his private airline. If Baba cuts the card, the site turns to Card Declined mode: a red airport alert reads “BABA CUT THE CARD.” In the in-flight game Ignore Baba: “Baba is calling. Decline. Never decline Mama.”

The cousin

His cousin flies with him as head of security, in seat 1B. The crew list: “19. Looks 15. Head of security. Nobody knows his name.” In the safety demonstration he does every step half a beat late. In Cousin Stack: “Stack Hamoudi's shopping bags on his cousin. Don't let him fold.”

“Name him”

Nobody knows the cousin's name, so the crew list asks the community to pick one: its “Name him” button goes to @hamoudibinbaba on Instagram, and the name is voted in Instagram story polls and comments at @hamoudibinbaba.

Bin Baba Air

Bin Baba Air is Baba's private airline, and it is the whole of hamoudibinbaba.com. Hamoudi has seat 1A, and the whole plane is his. The airline's mark is a pink tail fin with BB on it. Its flights are numbered by tour stop: stop 1 is flight BB001 and stop 2 is flight BB002.

The cabin crew read the safety card. Hamoudi answers each step:
